Heading into its seventh year and playing more markets than in previous years, the Vans Warped Tour ’01, kicked off June 22 in Phoenix. Leading the charge for this summer’s festival are: 311, AFI, Alien Ant Farm, The Ataris, Dropkick Murphys, Dub Pistols, Fenix TX, H20, Kool Keith, Less Than Jake, The Living End, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, New Found Glory, Pennywise, Rancid and The Vandals.

Other bands that are part of this year’s indie punk line-up include: Flogging Molly, Distillers, Guttermouth, Fear, Bouncing Souls, Misfits, Thrice, The Casualties, The Apex Theory, Midtown, Big Wig, Morgan Heritage, Mest, Hesher, Slightly Stoopid, Black Halos, Switch, The Juliana Theory, Sugarcult, No Motiv, Kill Your Idols, Good Charlotte, Liars Inc, Catch 22, Amen, Thrice, The Start, Lefty, River City High, Sum 41, Jimmy Eat World, The Explosion and Grand Theft Audio.

The Vans Warped Tour was conceived in 1995 as a summer camp on wheels, where extreme music, athletes and lifestyles could co-mingle and thrive. It has since become one of America’s longest running festival tours, responsible for introducing music fans to such artists as No Doubt, Blink 182, Eminem, Papa Roach, Kid Rock and Limp Bizkit.
