Give your skin the soft glow of a pumpkin!
When one thinks of autumn, thoughts of shorter days, cool crisp air and foliage’s changing colors immediately come to mind. In addition, pumpkin comes to mind. This great gourd was first introduced to North America between 7,000 and 5,500 B.C. and has been used by Native Americans as both food and medicine. The squash-like fruit is bright orange in color, due to its high level of the antioxidant carotenoids. It is also loaded with vitamin A, alpha and beta-carotenes and a good source of vitamins C, K and E and lots of minerals, including magnesium, potassium and iron. In addition to its numerous health benefits, the pumpkin has other surprising attributes. One study, conducted by psychiatrist Alan Hisrch, neurological director of the Smell andamp; Taste Treatment andamp; Research Foundation in Chicago, revealed that the aroma of pumpkin pie is one of the most arousing scents for men. Pumpkin promotes good health and wellness through sustenance and scent, but it also provides numerous benefits when applied to the skin.
In embracing the change of seasons, we need to pay special attention to our skin. As the summer tan has faded andamp;#8212; you notice your skin feeling dry and looking dull. Restore your skin’s natural balance with pumpkin skin care treatments that exfoliate, smooth and hydrate the skin.To celebrate autumn, I recommend a pumpkin-based spa treatment to promote the healthy glow in your skin. Pumpkin is rich in plant enzymes which act as a natural exfoliant that gently removes dead skin cells. Pumpkin’s rich carotenoid antioxidants neutralize free radicals, attacking the molecules responsible for premature aging. The ultimate benefit of a pumpkin spa treatment is to repair dull, sun-damaged skin and to re-nourish it with vitamins and minerals, leaving the skin feeling smooth and hydrated. At Stillwater Spa, we have introduced a trio of Pumpkin Spice treatments andamp;#8212; a Pumpkin Spice Body Glow, a pumpkin pedicure and a pumpkin manicure andamp;#8212; to repair and prep your skin for the harsh winter season ahead. However, you can also create your own pumpkin-themed experience at home, with a do-it-yourself Pumpkin Pie Scrub and Pumpkin Body Butter andamp;#8212; your skin will glow and melt away the snow.andamp;#8212;Julia Chang is the spa director of the Stillwater Spa located in the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort, Spa and Casino.
