Go forth with excitement and succeed

Thursday may have been the “official” start of summer, but for the more than 250 students from our area’s high schools, summer ” and a new phase of life ” began over the last week.

Graduates from North Tahoe High, Truckee High and Sierra High, Coldstream, Sugar Bowl Academy and Squaw Valley Academy (and moms, don’t pillory me if I’ve forgotten your student’s school), walked across their respective stages and into a big new world.

While paths will differ for these grads, we know 20 students from Truckee and North Tahoe will attend top-tier University of California campuses, and more than 50 will attend California State University schools. To them and others who are headed to schools around the state and country, we say congratulations for making it in a year that proved to be one of the most difficult for college admissions.

For grads who are taking other routes ” technical schools, study abroad programs or just traveling ” we say go forth and succeed. Your paths will be no less exciting ” or challenging.

And for those mothers who called the Sierra Sun saying that our graduation coverage was lacking, we hope our special Graduation Section that will appear in the paper on Tuesday is something you’ll pull out and save for when your son or daughter does a little retrospective at his or her 20th high school reunion.
