Got issues?

It’s Tuesday, Election Day afternoon, the day before our next edition hits the street and I’m feeling a little down. Call it “almost post-election withdrawals.” I mean, how could I not get all pumped when out of the blue the other night Rudy Giuliani, former savior of Gotham, gave me a call. Now, I didn’t really get too far in this one-sided discussion to hear why he was calling before I hung up, but still – Rudy called me. Along with that excitement, I’ve received tons of letters and guest columns for months now about other election-year fun: airport this, and airport that; candidate Susoriaeen is the best, candidate Susoriaeen is the worst; and Sen. Flipflop v. Dubya. Alas, I’ve burned through my stash of submissions and now face a void. The opinion page is already feeling a little, well, anticlimatic; a little less meaty than it has for a while now.It was about five or six months ago that I wrote a column exhorting readers, experts and advocates to stand up on the figurative soap box and tell the community what they think in a letter or a guest “My Turn” column. And they have – and then some. The noise coming from the Truckee Tahoe Airport District election alone was about as loud as a Lear jet clearing Prosser Heights. But much of that input – about the airport and whatnot – was fueled by the election. Now that that’s pretty much wrapped up, I’m looking at having to go cold turkey on the issues – unless you help.Just because the election is done, and I probably won’t be hearing from Rudy again, doesn’t mean the issues go away. So keep those letters and columns coming so I can ride that election-like euphoria for a while longer. In the meantime, got any broadband? Jamie Bate is the editor of the Sierra Sun.
