Grant awarded to Discovery Preschool
Discovery Preschool is proud to have received a $2,000 grant from First Five and Nevada County for a project called, and#8220;Science Integration and Reorganization of Classes.and#8221;
The project has helped to integrate an overall science theme into the curriculum. The children enjoy learning through the sciences. With this grant, each classroom received science tables, plants, animals, experiments and various other items to help learn about the world around them through discovery and hands-on activities. And with the help from Marshall at Pet Station, each class now has a fish tank as well as animals such as lizards, geckos, frogs and tortoises.
For example, the children had been learning about how things grow and each class had live butterflies, ants, tadpoles, ladybugs and plants to enhance their learning.
The grant has helped in reorganization of classrooms as the preschool recently moved classes around to make them developmentally age appropriate. The younger children feel more comfortable in a smaller setting and the smaller group size has stimulated a better learning environment. Teachers continue to work in specific classrooms, promoting consistency and familiarity for the children.
Discovery is please to announce they are now offering a new pre-kindergarten morning program, which will run from 9 a.m. to noon daily. The goal will be to focus on pre-kindergarten skills with an emphasis on science. Discovery is excited to launch a morning preschool program.
Discovery will continue the after school kindergarten program.
Discovery Preschool is currently accepting enrollment for children age 2 through kindergarten and are enrolling children in all programs. With the current status of our economy, Discovery has several discount options to help out Truckee families. Limited spaces available, please contact Lynn at 587-6966.
