TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; On Nov. 5, 2010, two on-duty Caltrans workers, Steve Elias and Gregory Englund, witnessed a rollover collision occur in front of their vehicle eastbound Highway 80 near the summit Castle Peak area. The two DOT personnel immediately stopped and with the assistance of California Highway Patrol Officers Andrade and Snyder, were able to lift the Dodge Dakota off a partially ejected passenger. The passenger regained consciousness and was successfully extricated from the vehicle. He has since made a full recovery.

Englund and Elias received commendations from the CHP for heroic activity above and beyond the call of duty.

Another fine example of Caltrans working in conjunction with the CHP. From left: Gregory Englund, CHP Captain Tracy Sturges and Steve Elias.
