The Truckee-Donner Recreation and Park District (TDRPD) Board unanimously voted to adopt a smoke-free policy at the Truckee River Regional Park and clubhouse at the Ponderosa Golf Course. The Board’s most recent decision happened at their last board meeting on March 12, 2009, which now allows for five of Truckee’s most popular parks to be completely smoke-free curb-to-curb. The five parks are the Truckee River Regional Park, River View Sports Park, Meadow Park, Bill Rose Memorial Park, and West End Beach.

The Truckee Youth Coalition would like to individually congratulate and thank the TDRPD Board members and staff who helped approve this decision. They are Chairman Kevin Murphy, Vice Chairman John Pruyn, Secretary Peter Werbel, Director Marshal Lewis, Director Janet Brady, General Manager Steve Randall, Recreation Superintendent Dan O’Gorman, District Clerk Sue Mitchell and all of the dedicated TDRPD staff.

Thanks to the Board, Truckee now has the highest number of smoke free parks in Nevada County and is part of a statewide movement that puts a community’s health and well-being in the forefront of their decision making process.
