A commitment to healthy living and self respect create the foundation of and#8220;Girls on the Run.and#8221; The non-profit prevention program encourages preteen girls to develop self respect and healthy lifestyles through running. There are several ways to support the local chapter of Girls on the Run – Sierras: Volunteer, become a member, attend Dragonflyand#8217;s nonprofit night or the LUNAFEST evening at the Village at Squaw.

Girls on the Run – Sierras has launched a new membership campaign. They invite you to become a member of this amazing local organization committed to educating and preparing girls for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living.

Membership funds help Girls on the Run Sierras reach more girls in the community with a 10-week healthy living and prevention program. There are three levels of membership:

Need an excuse to go out to dinner? Do you love dining at Dragonfly? On Wednesday, Nov. 4, treat yourself to a night out and Dragonfly Cuisine will donate 10 percent of all the food and drink checks to Girls on the Run. You’ll be supporting Girls on the Run – Sierras with a A night of great foodand#8230; in support of Girls on the Run!! Dragonfly Cuisine located in downtown Truckee.

Girls on the Run Sierras will present the LUNAFEST National Touring Film Festival, featuring award-winning short films by, for and about women on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 6 p.m. at the Village at Squaw Valley. This special fundraiser will be held in conjunction with the Womenand#8217;s Wellness Weekend to be hosted at the Village at Squaw Valley Nov. 14-15.

Tickets for the film festival are $49 each (Womenand#8217;s Wellness participants receive a $5 discount) and include wine tasting from Uncorked, delicious food samplings from various Village venues.

Remember your checkbook: The event’s live auction includes enticing items such as a whitewater rafting trip in Patagonia, a Squaw Lovers package and various season passes, ski tickets and much more.

The LUNAFEST event kicks off at 6 p.m. with wine and film viewing begins at 7:30 p.m.

GOTR Sierras needs coaches for the new winter season at Truckee Community Center starting December Dec. 7 at the Truckee Community Center. Meets every Monday and Wednesday for 10 weeks from 3:45 to 5:15 p.m. Or Dec. 8, every Tuesday and Thursday for 10 weeks from 2:25 to 4:15 p.m. For more information please call Jennifer at 587-1690.
