Help the fire’s victims

It could have been a lot worse.

That is the thought that has gone through many Truckee residents’ heads in the past week, as we watched brave fire workers beat back the Martis Fire and prevent a tragedy from becoming a disaster.

While most of the fire was in wilderness area, some populated areas were affected by the fire. The tiny town of Floriston narrowly avoided being consumed.

And at least one local family lost everything, and needs your help.

Bruce and Katherine Anglin lost their home and every possession except for the clothes on their backs when fire raged through their mobile home in the Hirschdale area. The Red Cross is currently providing temporary shelter for the Anglins and their three German Shepherds in a local motel, yet the local couple has no food, clothing or money.

Two local women have set up an account for the Anglins at Bank of the West in Truckee, and all monetary contributions will be accepted at the Gateway and downtown locations.
