Holiday break will get ‘radical’ for local youth

Teens looking for an affordable way to keep their social calendars full during the winter break need to look no further than the Truckee Teen Center and its Camp Radical.”It’s the most fun and affordable option for middle schoolers,” said Truckee Teen Center Director Tye Warner. “We offer everything from a day on the mountain to a day in a museum, and everything in between.”Students who sign up will have the opportunity to ski Boreal, shop in Reno, play laser tag, and more.”[Camp Radical] is going to be even better [this year] than last year because I’m going to learn to ski,” said 11-year-old Jenna Bean. “I think that new people that come will be excited to find out that it’s a lot of fun.”The Truckee Teen Center is an after-school activity facility run by the Truckee Donner Recreation & Park District that gives middle school and high school students the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities, such as baby-sitting classes, field trips, and dance classes. The center is open on school days from 2:306 p.m. and costs $2 per day or $20 per month to attend.”You get to meet new people, and it’s fun,” said 11-year-old Shawn Howe. “I’ve met most of my friends [at the Teen Center].”After-school transportation to the teen center runs daily from Alder Creek Middle School.
