Honoring soldiers’ sacrifice

In the past few months, expressions for and against American action in Iraq have made it into the pages of the Sierra Sun.

Some have solicited strong responses from readers; others have provided simple food for thought.

As the possibility of war looms large in the Middle East, local residents, like Jake Jacobs, featured on the front page of this week’s paper, are being called to action, and we want to honor their commitment. It’s not about taking a position on the war; it’s about making sure we respect the sacrifices of our military men and women.

Please, if you have a loved one or friend who has left, or might be deployed to aid in the war, drop us a line so we can tell the community about them.

Whether or not we think military action against Iraq is justified, it is our duty to recognize the bravery of those who risk their lives in pursuit of freedom.
