InnerActions Community Outreach Project spreads prevention message nationally

TRUCKEE, Calif. andamp;#8212; InnerACTIONS, a Truckee-based community outreach project of InnerRhythms, is traveling nationally from Placer County to Washington, D.C. to San Diego to Charlotte, N.C., spreading their message of andamp;#8220;Prevention Through Inspiration.andamp;#8221; InnerActions was featured at the Teen Health Connection 2011 Charlotte, N.C. Get Your Move On! initiative, dedicated to improving the overall health and quality of life for adolescents by empowering them to make positive behavioral decisions. InnerActionsandamp;#8217; purpose is to use performance mediums to positively impact youth in the prevention of at-risk behaviors, helping youth to build problem-solving skills, enhance interpersonal communication and promote cooperation between youth in local communities. Teens are encouraged to develop leadership skills and civic engagement in addressing and preventing the problems related to substance abuse, bullying and other high-risk behaviors. The critical theme of andamp;#8220;youth self-empowermentandamp;#8221; is center stage for each InnerActions performance, which engages youth with a multi-media video presentation fused with live hip-hop dance and theater on stage.InnerActions has performed at Georgetown Universityandamp;#8217;s National Training Institute in Washington, D.C., Sierra Health Foundationandamp;#8217;s 2010 Conference at Cal State Sacramento, the Family andamp; Youth Roundtable 2011 Conference in San Diego and regionally at high schools in North Lake Tahoe, Truckee, Loyalton and Incline Village, Nev. InnerActions performed in Charlotte, N.C. in early April and also at three high schools in Colusa County in late April.The 2011 Charlotte, Get Your Move On! is a youth-focused initiative with an andamp;#8220;Artists in Residenceandamp;#8221; program, six mini-performances for high school students, an evening community performance, a full-day youth conference with a youth leadership track, and an educational conference entitled andamp;#8220;Prevention Through Inspiration: A Strength Based Approach to Working with Adolescents Within a System of Careandamp;#8221; for mental health professionals.InnerRhythms is a California 501(c)3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to use the power of dance and music to cultivate life skills in youth and create an everlasting passion for the arts.
