Is your pet a hero? Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe seeks and#8216;Pet of Honorand#8217; for 8th Annual Truckee Duckee Derbee

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Humane Society of Truckee Tahoe is accepting nominations for the and#8220;Pet of Honorand#8221; to be acknowledged at the Eighth Annual Truckee Duckee Derbee set for June 12 at the River Ranch Lodge. Local pet owners may nominate a pet and#8220;who has enhanced, improved or saved the life of a human or another animal in the Truckee/Tahoe Community.and#8221;

and#8220;There are some incredible stories of courageous pets out there,and#8221; said Stephanie Jensen, HSTT director. and#8220;We thought the Truckee Duckee Derbee would be a great place to acknowledge one of them every year.and#8221;

Nominations for the Pet of Honor will be accepted until 5 p.m., June 1 and the winner will be selected by a small jury and notified by June 3.

Pets need to be a full or part-time resident of the Truckee/Tahoe community and nominations must be no longer than 250 words and accompanied by a photo of the pet.

The official and#8220;Pet of Honorand#8221; will receive an award, a gift package and lunch for two humans at the River Ranch.

The Truckee Duckee Derbee is a benefit for the HSTT, and the afternoonand#8217;s festivities also include live music on the outdoor patio, a barbecue, drink and food specials, a fabulous raffle and the hilarious and#8220;Dogz in Dudz,and#8221; a K-9 costume contest.

The pre-race party and registration starts at 1 p.m., and#8220;Dogz in Dudzand#8221; at 2 p.m. and the Derbee commences immediately after. Cost to sponsor a duck is $10 and the top three ducks win cash. The amount depends on the size of the pot. There is no cost to enter the costume contest. Prizes will be awarded to the most stylish and creative canines.
