IVGID GM’s Corner: Exercise your right to vote for the primary

Steve Pinkerton

Each and every Incline Village/Crystal Bay registered voter has a chance to really make his or her vote count over the next week.

The Registrar of Voters is expecting a very low turnout for the June 14 primary election in Nevada. That is bad news for our democracy, but good news for those of us who exercise our right to select our representatives.

The registrar projects participation from about 1,250 of Incline’s 6,944 voters. That means that your vote represents not just yourself, but four other people who chose not to vote!

So I hope all of you take the opportunity to vote! Early voting at the Incline Village Library concludes tomorrow, and the polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day (June 14).

For more information on voting, you can go to the Washoe County Registrar’s web page at bit.ly/1UoGIlC.

And please be sure to select your three preferred candidates for the IVGID Board of Trustees. Ten candidates are running for three open positions. The top six who receive the most votes will move on to the General Election this fall.

There is a bounty of information available on this newspaper’s website, including candidate statements (bit.ly/1YeVOuT) and a link to the candidate forum (bit.ly/218hSGy).

And if all that information piqued your interest in learning more about IVGID, just another reminder that our website at yourtahoeplace.com is packed with additional information about all of our services and is loaded with plenty of financial and operating reports as well.

I spent a lot of time in my last installment of this column talking about the greatly expanded offerings on our website. I also mentioned that all of my previous GM’s Corners were also accessible on our website at this link: bit.ly/1TZkCap.

These columns also provide a lot of summary information about IVGID and Incline Village/Crystal Bay. If you are interested in our purchasing policies, a number of my recent columns focused on purchasing, bidding and outsourcing.

There are a number of columns on the proposed Diamond Peak Master Plan and a number of columns which focus on our budget and our annual audit. You can even learn more than you ever wanted to know about our sewer flows!

In other words, with a couple of keystrokes you can learn all about the candidates and about IVGID. With very few items on the ballot, all this time researching the IVGID Trustee race shouldn’t detract from the time to study the other races as well!

After you’ve selected your candidates, be sure to take advantage of our upcoming IVGID Appreciation Days.

This upcoming weekend, our golf courses will show their appreciation to the residents of Incline Village and Crystal Bay by offering free golf, clinics, and discounts to people with a valid IVGID Picture Pass.

Bring your IVGID Picture Pass to receive the following benefits June 10-12:

• Complimentary golf at the Mountain Course: Call 775-832-1150 to book a tee time.

• Complimentary clinics at the Championship Course: Putting clinic on June 10, Chipping clinic on June 11, Pitching clinic on June 12. (Space is limited an online registration is required.)

• Specials at Wild Bill’s BBQ & The Grille.

• Up to 50% off select merchandise at both Golf Shops.

The following weekend, the Community Recreation Center and Tennis Center will show their appreciation to Incline Village and Crystal Bay residents. Bring your IVGID Picture Pass to receive the following benefits June 17-19:

• Free all-day access to the Incline Recreation Center: Includes access to group and fitness classes.

• Free access to the Tennis Center after noon.

• Raffle prizes at both venues.

• 25% off all tennis shoes in the Pro Shop.

• Free tennis and pickleball clinics.

• Complimentary fruit and refreshments all weekend.

These two weekends are a great opportunity to experience the variety of activities that are available to residents in the summer. It is also a way of thanking our residents for the great support they provide to IVGID.

I hope you will come and sample some of our activities. This past winter, we had record participation in our Diamond Peak resident appreciation week and I am hopeful that the next two weekends will be just as successful!

We also have lots of other events planned this summer, just go to the following link: https://www.yourtahoeplace.com/events and fill your calendar with our many special events.

Also be sure to keep your eye out for the June IVGID Quarterly in your mail and inserted into the Bonanza on June 23.

So please be sure to vote and be sure to take advantage of all the activities at IVGID this summer!

“GM’s Corner” is a recurring column from Incline Village General Improvement Distinct General Manager Steve Pinkerton, who will discuss issues and offer updates regarding various district matters. He may be reached for comment at steve_pinkerton@ivgid.org.
