Jazzing it up at Lake Tahoe

Grammy award-winning musician Boney James played with his band at the Hyatt Regency's Holiday Jazz Festival in Incline Village last weekend.

We have much to be thankful for here at Lake Tahoe and Truckee. Last weekend many were thankful for a wonderful jazz festival at the Hyatt Regency in Incline Village.

On Friday and Saturday night the hotel/casino’s grand ballroom was transformed into an intimate jazz club featuring headliners Chris Botti on Friday night and Boney James on Saturday night.

Saturday night I attended the Boney James concert. The talented saxophonist clearly enjoys writing and performing music. Backed up by a smokin’ band, the Grammy-nominated artist jammed for the entire time without taking a break to an audience of devotees totally familiar with his tunes.

He featured cuts off his new romantic and#8220;make-outand#8221; CD including his arrangement of the Stevie Wonder title cut, and#8220;Send One Your Loveand#8221; as well as Bill Wither’s and#8220;Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone,and#8221; and his own and#8220;Butter.and#8221; James is one of those people with a twinkle in his eye and an upbeat, positive vibe. Married to actress/director Lily Mariye of television’s and#8220;ER,and#8221; James earned his moniker and#8220;Boneyand#8221; from his early lean days working as a per diem musician when he barely made enough money to feed himself.

After the concert James signed CDs, schmoozed and took photos with his fans.
