Keep their hands off our schools
California is in the throws of an economic meltdown. It’s something we have all heard before, but this time it may be more real than ever.
Rural governments, like Truckee, and Nevada and Placer counties, are looking at the prospects of decreases in state funding and increases in financial obligations to the state. No doubt, we will feel the pinch when all is said and done.
Now is the time to contact our state representatives and push for their commitment to Truckee’s needs, especially as it affects school funding.
Without the proper oversight of parents, our schools could become the grab bag for the state budget balancing effort. Sure, the money has to come from somewhere, but our children’s future should be the last resort.
Education is the key to our state’s future economic health, and it is up to parents to make sure the politicians do not take schools for granted.
Cutting funding to schools is shortsighted and should be avoided at all costs, even as we desperately try to improve the bottom line.
