The Tahoe City Downtown Association is sponsoring a Shop Local contest that runs through Christmas Eve on Lake Tahoe west and north shores. To participate, shoppers cab pick up a punch card, spend money and have the cards punched. For each $20 a shopper spends, a merchant punches their card. A shopper must spend $100 to enter a random drawing. Every $100 spent qualifies the shopper for another raffle entry. There are five raffle categories from $100 to $500. Winners will be notified after January 1, 2008. Punch cards are available from The Store, the North Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce andamp; Visitors Center next to the Fire House, the Tahoe City Downtown Association above the Blue Agave Restaurant, or at Geared for Games in the Boatworks Mall. The promotion is intended to support local businesses by keeping dollars in the area while reducing transportation costs, according to a press release from the downtown association. Its the do-what-you-can-do philosophy, said association Executive Assistant Kelly Atchley. Know what you have in town.Participating merchants are located from Dollar Hill in Tahoe City to Tahoma on the West Shore. The contest does not include spending on groceries, lodging or restaurants. For more information, call the Tahoe City Downtown Association at 583-3348 or visit
