KidZone Museum offers free summer admission to active-duty military families

TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212;-The KidZone Museum, a nonprofit childrenand#8217;s museum in Truckee, Calif., along with museums across the country, is offering free admission this summer to active-duty military families through Labor Day, Sept. 5, 2011.

The Blue Star Museum initiative was launched in 2010 and is being led by the National Endowment for the Arts and Blue Star Families, an organization supporting military families. One of its primary goals is to raise awareness of the challenges and strengths of military family life. The program currently features more than 1,300 museums nationwide. The District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and American Samoa are also participating in Blue Star Museums. Museums include nature centers, childrenand#8217;s museums, fine art museums and history and science museums. In 2011, more than 500 museums joined.

The free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card, or a DD Form 1173-1 ID card, including those stamped URW and DB. These include active duty military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard), National Guard and Reserve members and up to five immediate family members.

Currently featured at the KidZone Museum is the Starfish Enterprise exhibit. Exhibit highlights include an Imagination Playground and#8220;reefand#8221; building, a research submarine, reading nook and sand play. The Museum is dedicated to and designed for families with children up to age seven. Exhibits change periodically and focus on sparking a childand#8217;s curiosity. For additional information, visit
