Lake Cushing Crossing and High Camp pool party to make waves Sunday, April 29

Amy Edgett/Sierra SunA new meaning to icy hot and#8230; Squaw Valley will host a High Camp pool party Saturday, April 29.

OLYMPIC VALLEY and#8212; Squaw Valley is excited to host the 22nd Annual Lake Cushing Crossing Sunday, April 29 at 1 p.m. April 29 also marks the final day of Squaw Valley’s 2011-12 winter season, however, Squaw’s sister resort, Alpine Meadows, will remain open Friday-Sunday through May 13.

The Lake Cushing Crossing is the resort’s acclaimed pond skimming event that challenges participants to cross the vast and chilly waters of Cushing Pond on skis, a snowboard or any ski or snowboard-based vessel. The event is known for colossal crashes, hilarious costumes, and ultra-creative pond skimming contraptions.

In addition to the legendary pond skimming event, this weekend boasts an incredible lineup of spring fun at Squaw Valley with a Saturday pool party at High Camp, great ski conditions and sunny skies in the forecast, and music at the KT Base Bar.

The Cushing Crossing is open to the first 50 registrants. Registration this year will take place at the KT Base Bar at 9 a.m. and the competition kicks off at 1 p.m. The cost to participate is $20 per person. All entrants must be 18 years of age or older and wear a life preserver and a helmet. For more info go to
