Lake of the Sky Garden Club to meet today at Gar Woods
CARNELIAN BAY, Calif. and#8212; Lake of the Sky Garden Club will hold its March meeting at Gar Woods Restaurant, 5000 N. Lake Blvd., Carnelian Bay, March 28, 3:30-5:30 p.m.
Lake Tahoe garden enthusiasts will gather upstairs at Gar Woodsand#8217; stunning lakefront restaurant to enjoy local artist Cornelia Kallerudand#8217;s talk and hands-on demonstration of basket weaving, and to catch up with friends over and#8220;Wet Woodies.and#8221;
Lake of the Sky Garden Club meets monthly from March to October.
Sharon Gay is club president and historian of the 75 member club. Lake of the Sky Garden Cluband#8217;s goals are to promote an interest in gardening, with particular emphasis on the problems at high altitude, to support charitable, educational, and scientific works, as well as to initiate and participate in beautification and developmental gardening projects in the North Lake Tahoe region.
On Saturday, July 30, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Lake of the Sky Garden Club will host their 23rd annual garden tour, the 2011 Truckee Garden Tour. Proceeds from this tour will fund scholarships to encourage study in landscaping, horticulture, forestry or environmental science and up to $6,000 in grants to local community projects.
Last yearand#8217;s Lake Tahoe West Shore Garden Tour completely sold out at 500 tickets. Save the date and plan now to attend this year’s tour benefiting local Lake Tahoe public gardens with friends.
Tens of thousands of dollars have been raised by the cluband#8217;s previous garden tours and donated to recipients including Hellman-Ehrman Mansion (also known as Pine Lodge), Thunderbird Lodge, North Lake Tahoe Historical Society, Vikingsholm, Girl Scouts, Tahoe City Community Center (Rideout), Project MANA and UC Davis Tahoe City Fish Hatchery (Eriksson Education Center) as well as local schools and libraries.
