Late voter registration deadline nears

Staff reportsOct. 18 is the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 2 General Election. Voter registration cards must be completed, signed and postmarked by Oct. 18, according to the Nevada County Elections Office. People who register to vote on or before Oct. 18 will be eligible to vote, but will only receive notification of their polling place or whether they must vote by mail.Voters must re-register every time they move and should also re-register if they change their mailing address. Free, postage-paid voter registration cards are available at numerous locations throughout Nevada County, including government offices, post offices, libraries, chambers of commerce and many businesses.For more information, contact the Nevada County Elections Office at 265-1298 or toll-free from Lake of the Pines and Truckee, within Nevada County, at 1-888-395-1298.
