Letter to the Editor: A creative leader for TCPUD

Sue Rae Irelan
Homewood

I want to share my enthusiasm for Christine McMorrow as a candidate for Seat 3 on the TCPUD Board of Directors. Chris is a terrific example of the new generation of leaders our community needs to stay diverse and vital. I met Chris six years ago when I was part of a team that hired her to work for Sierra Watershed Education Partnerships, a local non-profit that engages our youth in their community through environmental projects. Since that time, I have watched as she built that organization from an annual budget of $35,000 to over $130,000, from being a staff person to leading the organization and managing its programs and budget, from creating community connections with a few organizations to building strong partnerships with schools, government, businesses, and non-profits throughout the North Tahoe region. In short, I watched her become a creative, hard working, community leader.

Christine also embodies the kind of potential for Tahoe City that makes me want to live here. She and her husband Stewart and daughter Savannah moved to this area for the quality of its natural environment, and have chosen to stay and make this town their home, even in challenging economic times. Christine would bring a fresh perspective to the TCPUD Board and connections to the young families that live, shop, and grow in Tahoe City that are our future.

There are excellent candidates running for the TCPUD Board this year. I am reminded that we often have uncontested local elections and it is wonderful to see four good people vying for this seat. My support goes to Christine as the best candidate to represent my family’s needs.
