Letter to the editor: High school will offer honors classes

John Neary
Principal, Truckee High School

The May 15 edition ran a letter “Ninth graders need honors classes” which needs to be corrected. Truckee High School will in fact offer ninth grade honors classes in English, Science, and Geometry. In order to be accepted into these classes students will need to meet appropriate criteria including a grade of A in the related class in eighth grade, a rank of Advanced on the STAR test, teacher recommendation(s), completion of a reading and writing sample and completion of the summer reading list for English.

Truckee High School staff focuses on the needs of all our students. Information on applying for ninth grade honors classes may be obtained at the counseling office at Alder Creek Middle School.
