Letter to the Editor: Hurry up and wait for new Mouse Hole

Truckee has been exploding in growth, development and new highway designs for some time. Traffic is going to get worse as the years role by. Built in 1928, “The Mouse Hole” in Truckee has been a topic of conversation for decades, I’ve been here 31 years and we were talking about it then.

Everyone gets excited, the new hole is on the way! Yet, here we go again, hurry up and wait. I do know that the West River underpass downtown was paid for in part by the railroad, Cal Trans and others, and built in record time. I would hope that the Railroad, Cal Trans and Truckee will share the costs. They say that it will be finalized at Cal Trans in 2009. Does that mean that it will be built in time for winter?

How proactive is the Town being in pestering Cal-Trans as to the project. It’s only 70 years to small.
