Letter to the Editor: Kings Beach needs funding
Incline Village, Nev.
With respect to the two articles concerning Mr. McClure’s law suite over the Kings Beach Commercial Core Improvement Project (KBCCIP). Mr. McClure and the Alliance chose not to participate in the lengthy process which started years ago. A process in which all of the community at large were invited to participate. Thousands of volunteer hours went into selecting the three-lane alternative and whether it was a survey, forum or workshop, the community consistently selected the three-lane alternative by a margin of 70 percent to 30 percent.
First was the doom and gloom over massive traffic jams, then emergency vehicles couldn’t get through, then the safety issue and the children in the back streets, and now it’s the air quality, traffic, noise and public safety. What excuses are next, locusts or famine?
The Alliance also thought they had an ace in the hole in the form of Placer County Supervisor Bruce Kranz who favored the four/five lane alternative. One thing they didn’t count on was that this was an election year; the community was so outraged Supervisor Kranz did not support their desired alternative, they voted him out of office.
If Mr. McClure and the Alliance feel they have such a strong case, why should Placer County pick up the tab for suing itself? Isn’t that referred to as playing with the house’s money?
Is it a coincidence the Alliance had to go all the way to Davis, Calif., to find an attorney to represent them? At a time when businesses are struggling mightily to stay alive, wouldn’t a $50 million investment in Kings Beach be just what community needed?
Should funding for this project be lost because the case is tied up in court, Mr. McClure and his Alliance will have a lot of explaining to do.
