Letter to the Editor: Kings Beach will not be the same

Things are changing here in Kings Beach. The construction is moving along, which is great. The state has taken over the recreation area — unsure of how this will be.

There was a letter in the paper recently from the head of CA State Parks after taking over the Kings Beach Rec Area. He stated of how they are trying to accommodate the locals, yet implement their rules. He has since stepped down.

We miss the North Tahoe PUD taking care of the beach and park and providing needs for our community. It has been asked several times to state parks about supplying doggy bags at the dog area of Coon Street.

Finally, I was told that we will not have any bags as there is “no money” for them. They also said they cannot afford the workers to clean up all the poop that is in the dog area.

Interesting, as they have 2-3 workers collecting money for parking, and I feel only one is needed during the week, maybe two on Saturdays.

This past Saturday, the “Lot Full” sign was out early afternoon so maybe someone could have been doing something else more useful?

I was also told by a ranger that this year there will still be Friday night Music on the Beach, the 3rd of July fireworks, the paddleboard events, and the Craft Fairs; however, no promises for next year. That would be very disappointing if our local events did not take place in Kings Beach.

So, please enjoy all of our events this year and save your plastic Safeway bags to carry along with your doggy (until we don’t have those bags anymore either).

Let’s make this a great summer in our awesome Kings Beach town.
