Letter to the Editor: Pilot doesn’t understand our community

I picked up a copy of the Sierra Sun on July 15 and noticed the article on the front page about our local airport. I was just amazed that a group of out-of-area pilots hired an aviation consultant to challenge our local noise-reducing measures.

Even more amazing was the consultant Jon Rogers of Jon Rodgers Aviation Consulting being quoted as saying, and#8220;The job of the airport is to manage the communities to accept the noise … don’t bother the pilots … manage the community to take the noiseand#8221;.

First of all, I support our local airport and understand the positive financial impact to our community. To the out-of-area pilots, we welcome you to use our airport in a responsible manner. The sad thing here is that I felt that the community, airport and pilots had developed a positive relationship. Now we have some out of town pilots who want to impose a minority view upon a majority of our community. I guess these pilots do not really care about us at all.

Mr. Rodgers, who is located in Van Nuys, thinks our community should just and#8220;take the noiseand#8221;. This statement sounded incredibly arrogant. Are you going to stuff your views down our throats? Has anyone ever been to Van Nuys and experienced the crushing traffic gridlock and overwhelming air pollution?

Luckily, the current airport management and board does care about the community. This is America and we do have a say over our local affairs. I would encourage all locals to keep electing a board that has the community interest in mind. Do not let out-of-area people run our airport and push us around!
