Letter to the editor: Thank you for 100 percent renewable pledge

On Nov. 28, the Town of Truckee Town Council voted unanimously to adopt the 100 percent renewable energy resolution, 2017-58. The resolution sets townwide goals of 100 percent renewable electricity by 2030, 100 percent renewable energy by 2050, and greenhouse gas reductions of 80 percent by 2040.

We want to thank our town council for being climate action leaders and taking this bold step towards putting our town on a path to sustainability and climate change mitigation.

We also want to thank the members of the 100 percent Renewable Truckee Citizen Coalition, Sierra Nevada Alliance for convening our coalition, the Sierra Club for their support and guidance, and all of our supporters in the community who signed the petition, sent letters of support, and showed up at the town council meeting.

The hard work of living up to the resolution begins now, but we have had a great start. We encourage citizens to participate in updating the Town’s General Plan, taking place in 2018, which will be an opportunity to outline steps to implement Truckee’s 100 percent renewable commitment.

An older friend I made when I began here in 2016 called the other day to talk about the paper. I hadn’t heard from her in awhile and, well, I’ve been here just long enough…
