Letter to the Editor: The irony of the school board’s decision

I was surprised to learn that the Tahoe Truckee Unified School Board did not adopt the resolution for Speak Your Peace.

Now more than ever our community, (in fact our entire country) could benefit greatly from these very simple guidelines for civility.

Perhaps what is most ironic is that the most contentious community issue this year has been around the school board recall.

When I went to my son’s back to school night, I was appalled at the behavior of parents around this issue, which overshadowed what should have been a good experience for parents who simply wanted to know what was happening in their child’s classrooms.

Perhaps if Speak Your Peace had been set in motion a little earlier this year, parent and student experiences in our schools would have been much better.

Speak Your Peace is something that all of us benefit from, as individuals, and as citizens of our community, no matter what side of an issue you may represent. I hope those objecting to the matter will reconsider.
