Thanks from the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus

This past weekend the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus performed an original musical production called the Truckee Historical Revue.

The show was the vision of our founding conductor, Chris Nelson who passed away in 2012, and encompasses the history of Truckee and surrounding areas beginning with Native American days and culminating with the 1960s Olympics in Squaw Valley. It includes songs and stories about the Gold Rush, railroad building, Boca Beer, personalities and legends, Chinese and Irish immigrants, the Donner party, and more.

With inspiration from the songs of Richard Blair, Truckee local David Wendell Nelson composed the score for orchestra and chorus and wrote the narration read by McAvoy Layne as Mark Twain. Chris’s daughter Courtney Nelson Murrell read a tribute to her father. The Chorus, all in period attire, was joined by Richard Blair; Diablo Valley College Philharmonic Orchestra and Owen Lee; Stephanie Mushrush, a member of the Washoe Tribe of Nevada and California; the OK Chorale; Inner Rhythms dancers; and the Truckee Tahoe Youth Chorus.

TTCC wishes to express its thanks to our audiences, performers and volunteers, and to all the members, community individuals, organizations and businesses who supported our show. The audience was thrilled and asked when the show would be performed again. The only thing lacking is a proper venue. Truckee: We need a theater!
