Round up the family, grab the mittens and head out the door. The Truckee Community Chorus is taking the stage, and this year’s show is not to be missed. “People won’t be prepared for the excellence of this program,” said musical director Chris Nelson. “It is just delightful, and even the chorus has been blown away by what is happening.” Nelson, who started the chorus four seasons ago through Sierra College, said that this year’s holiday program will be topped off by a string quartet comprised of Truckee locals and members of the Reno Philharmonic, as well as pianist Susan Olenwine from the Reno Chamber Orchestra.

“This time of year is when the chorus is the most fun,” said soprano singer Lynelle Tyler. “It’s easy to get secluded in your home with the snow piling up, but this is a friendly and heart-warming reason to get out.” The 50-member holiday chorus will sing traditional carols and well-known favorites by Handel, Holst and Lauridsen, among others. Students from Glenshire and Truckee Elementary School choruses will also join the Community Chorus for its two Sunday performances. And for the first time, the chorus will be recording an album of 18 light and classical holiday songs, which will be available for purchase at this year’s performances and at local music merchants shortly after.

Sunday, Dec. 4, the Chorus will perform at the Resort at Squaw Creek at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 11, two performances will be held at the Truckee High School Theater at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m.General admission for all concerts is $10; children and students are free.
