Lights, camera … acting class announced

TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; Truckee Donner Recreation and Parks District announces an exciting class for youths in third grade through high school who love acting and would also like to learn how to make great movies. Participants will first perform in scenes from favorite plays and musicals, and then film them using professional video camera angles. Learn to edit your movie with transitions, music, and sound effects, and apply some cool techniques used in feature films, like green screen. Camcorders and iPOD Touches will be utilized for this part of the workshop. Also, this class will feature and#8220;clay animation,and#8221; an interesting video technique used by Pixar in which clay figures are brought to life by moving them a little at a time, taking a picture, and then running the frames together to make an animated film. Kids enrolled will create an original short video using this technique, which will be submitted to state festivals.

The video made in March by the group took first place in video at the California State Fair. Yours could be next! This class will be taught by drama teacher Courtney Simson, and is offered on Tuesdays from Oct. 9 through Dec. 4 at the Community Recreation Center. There will be a showcase on the last day for families. Middle and high school students may come at 2:30 p.m.; elementary students will join the activities at 3:45 p.m. Each class ends at 5:15 p.m. Fee is $120 for nine classes.
