Local competes in pageant
Truckee’s Shellie Snell, daughter of Yvonne Snell, has been selected as an entrant in the Miss California Teen All American Pageant to be staged in the Grand Ballroom of the Holiday Inn-Plaza Park in Visalia, Calif. on Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 3 and 4.Each contestant will be judged in the following categories: evening gown, swimsuit and personal interview. Contestants compete for a fabulous array of prizes including $1,000 cash, jewelry, luggage, a $500 shoe wardrobe, fitness programs and more.The event will select California’s representative to the 23rd Annual Miss Teen All American Pageant staged at the Miami Airport Hilton and Marina in Miami next August.Shellie will be competing with young women from all over the state for the title of Miss Teen All American 2001. She attends Tahoe-Truckee High School where she participates in cheerleading, softball, leadership and maintains a 3.5 GPA. Her other activities include snowboarding, skating and dancing.”It’s real exciting but there is quite a bit of work involved,” Yvonne Snell said of her daughter’s selection. “She worked really hard to get her sponsors. Without the help of local businesses here she never would have been able to do this. It’s awesome that we have such a great community here that supports the kids.”Shellie participated in the Little Miss American Starlet Pageant when she was 8 and won in her age group. She found out about the Miss Teen competition at school and decided to go for it.”It’s exciting and something different,” Yvonne said. “Her plans are to put her money towards education and travel if she wins.”Saturday’s presentation show will begin at 8 p.m. and Sunday’s final show will begin at 1 p.m. Tickets for both events are available to anyone to support Shellie and cheer her on to become Miss California Teen All American 2001.Shellie’s local sponsors to the pageant are: Sierra Multi-Speciality Medical Group, Inc., Advanced Body & Frame, Pizza Junction, Greg and Cynthia Pope and Kiski.The Miss Teen All American Pageant is recognized as the foremost teen pageant in the country.
