Local MoveOn.org activists reschedule peace vigil

Truckee-area MoveOn.org volunteers have rescheduled a planned peace vigil for Tuesday in order to coordinate the event with other anti-war actions.

The liberal activist group will conduct the candlelight vigil at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, in front of Starbucks coffee shop in the Gateway shopping Center next to Truckee’s Safeway on Donner Pass Road.

According to organizer Parvin Darabi, Tuesday’s vigil will correspond with others being held by MoveOn peace activists across the country.

“We would like to send our disgust with this unjustified war to our members of Congress and request that they end this war and bring our troops home when they return to Congress in September,” Parvin said in a news release.

The vigil’s new scheduled time is a day earlier than the time the local group announced last week. The same organizers are involved.

Those with questions may call MoveOn.org organizers Parvin Darabi at 582-4197 or Kai Amundsen at 412-1181.
