Loving Solutions parenting class in Truckee
The Family Resource Center of Truckee will be offering a new parenting series, and#8220;Loving Solutionsand#8221; for parents of children ages 5 to 10 years old. The seven-week series will meet weekly beginning Thursday, Jan. 21, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The location will be determined.
This classes will provide parent education and tips to help parents build their skills through easy techniques. Parents will gain practical and emotional support from a trained facilitator and fellow parents and take home and#8220;useful toolsand#8221; after the first session.
Loving Solutions is a research-based program designed for group learning and utilizes a workbook format, group interaction and home activities for maximum learning.
Parents will be provided guidelines and tools to learn and understand how to: Influence and motivate children; transmit their family values and standards; encourage positive choices; establish rules and tools; respond to their childrenand#8217;s choices; structure their actions for success; develop personal action plans and remain consistent in their parenting. This class will be valuable to all parents and children. It addresses a full range of child behaviors, from compliant to strong-willed.
Susan Bower, a Credentialed Teacher and Child Development Consultant will facilitate. Bower holds a B.A. in Child Development and an M.A. in Education. She is a trained parenting facilitator and the mother of three young children. Leslie McQuary, who works with EMQ Families First as a Family Partner providing supportive services to local families will assist.
She and her husband have two teenagers and they both participated in the Parent Project (teenage version of Loving Solutions) in January 2009. She states they and#8220;feel very strongly that this class offered many skills that we had not received in the past. I believe that these classes are the (parenting) and#8216;manualand#8217; that our children do not come with.and#8221;-
Child Care will be available on site for potty-trained children ages 2-10. The cost for the series is $125 per family and includes a workbook.
Scholarships are available.
