MYSTERY MUSICAL EXPERIENCE | A fundraiser to benefit Royal Gorge acquisition
DONNER SUMMIT, Calif. and#8212; The acquisition of Royal Gorge properties will afford ready access to 3,000 acres of open space, which comprises much of the historic Donner Summit area. The area offers cross-country skiing, birding, appreciation of history, hiking, biking, wildflower and wildlife observation. The purchase price of $11.25 million must be raised by Dec. 20, thus the need for generous donations.
A and#8220;mysteryand#8221; location has been chosen for a very special concert to benefit the Truckee Donner Land Trust for the acquisition of Royal Gorge properties. On Sunday, Sept. 23, be prepared for a unique and awe-inspiring musical experience on Donner Summit.
Featured will be Rootstock Percussion, San Francisco Bay Area musicians Christopher Rowe, Daniel Kennedy and Loren Mach, who specialize in the rich 20th century percussion repertoire. After a brief intermission, the audience will be treated to the Sacramento Philharmonic Brass Ensemble with principal trumpet James Rodseth, trumpet Michael Meeks, principal trombone Joel Elias and others from the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra.
The concert will be followed by a wine and hors dand#8217;oeuvres reception at Sugar Bowland#8217;s Lake Mary Cabin. Special wines and food will be sampled; participating restaurant sponsors are Moodyand#8217;s, Dragonfly, Sugar Bowl, Cottonwood and The Summit Restaurant. Wines will be offered by the Pour House, Dave Lose and Soda Springs General Store.
Breathtaking photos and a detailed map of Royal Gorge lands will be displayed with information about the acquisition process.
The Donner Summit Area Association in collaboration with the Donner Summit Historical Society, Sugar Bowl and Donner Ski Ranch are hosting the event.

Meet at the Donner Ski Ranch parking lot at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23; the concert will begin promptly at 2 p.m. followed by the reception at Lake Mary. Comfortable walking shoes are advisable. Rain date is Sunday, Sept. 30, same time and place.
