CLIO, Calif. and#8212; With the snow-capped mountains of the Sierra Buttes as the backdrop, the Nakoma Golf Resort has reawakened with substantial offerings. Its magnificent clubhouse boasts a spacious restaurant and a full service bar. The Resortand#8217;s warm, elegantly appointed studio, one and two bedroom villas offer an opportunity to parlay a day trip into a weekend getaway.

As the golf course takes its winter hiatus, consider stopping in for a leisurely weekend breakfast, a tasty lunch or an afternoon cocktail. The restaurant gracefully spirals around the massive Frank Lloyd Wright fireplace and offers sweeping views of the snow-clad greens where birds and wildlife can often be spotted. The bar offers an inviting lounge with a fireplace, flat screen TVs and a patio.

With limited winter hours, the clubhouse is open Friday 11 a.m.-2 p.m. for lunch, and 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays for breakfast and lunch. The bar will also be open during these hours featuring beer, wine, cocktails and specialty drinks.

The breakfast menu includes items such as the Nakoma wrap with rosemary red potato, sauteed bell pepper, polish sausage, provolone cheese and scrambled egg in a flour wrap; the club frittata with fresh scrambled eggs, bacon, green onion and Swiss cheese; and the Dragon waffle served with butter, real maple syrup, whipped cream and fruit. The lunch menu offers soup, chili, a Polish sausage dog, the Nakoma burger with barbecued Angus beef and a selection of deli-style and panini-grilled sandwiches.

Stay and Play packages in the Resortand#8217;s beautifully designed luxury Villas are competitively priced for the winter. When the snow conditions are right, plan to enjoy the Resortand#8217;s wintertime recreation options including sledding, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. Snowmobile tours with Explore Sierra Touring Company are also available.

The Nakoma Golf Resort is located on County Road A-15, between Portola and Graeagle. It is two and one-half hours from Sacramento, about one hour from Reno and 50 minutes from Truckee.

Whether you are looking for a peaceful overnight getaway or planning that perfect family vacation, the Nakoma Golf Resort is the perfect haven for all.
