Ninth graders need honors classes

Kris Kuyper
Truckee

At the Truckee High School orientation meeting, parents were informed that there would be no honors classes offered to the ninth grade.

Our advanced learners who have enormous potential are being neglected by the district. We have endured a middle school with no honors program. We were looking forward to high school for a more challenging and stimulating curriculum.

Now I am completely disillusioned and resigned to paying for private classes.

I am sure that there are enough students who would want to take an honors class to fill a classroom, so I don’t understand how this change is a response to staff cuts. I encourage the district to revisit this policy decision.
