North Tahoe Fire District announces Christmas tree recycling

TAHOE CITY and#8212; The North Tahoe Fire Protection District in collaboration with North Tahoe PUD and the Tahoe City PUD are offering a post holiday Christmas Tree Chipping Program. Residents are encouraged to drop off clean Christmas trees for recycling through Friday, Jan. 20 at 5 p.m. at the Regional Park in Tahoe Vista, on National Avenue and the Tahoe City PUD lower parking lot on Fairway Drive in Tahoe City.

The drop off area will be designated with orange cones. All decorations, lights, tinsel, etc., must be removed from the trees. Wreaths, stumps and other green waste cannot be accepted. This program is an alternative to the landfill option. As a reminder, dried out Christmas trees pose a significant fire hazard and recycling is the right thing to do.

Call the North Tahoe Fire Chipping Hotline at 530-546-4347 with questions.
