North Tahoe High School News | From Principal Joanna Mitchelland#8217;s desk
Welcome back to North Tahoe High School for the 2012-2013 school year! We are looking forward to a fantastic year and would like to remind you of some changes and introduce you to our new staff.
This is a reminder that, after careful consideration of the needs of all students, NTHS will adopt a modified six-period block schedule this year. Monday, Tuesday, and Friday will be traditional six period days; and Wednesday and Thursday will be alternating block days. This modified schedule will provide students with frequency of class time as well as longer block periods for in-depth learning. It will also allow students the flexibility to support programs such as Ski Academy, Culinary ROP, and band. For more information, please see the NTHS website for a calendar and bell schedule. Students will need to adjust to managing six courses throughout the year, so please remember to review your studentand#8217;s grades with them on Aeries frequently.
Also new this year will be a 45-minute RTI (intervention and enrichment) period in the mornings on block days. This will be a time when students in need of extra support in classes can get tutoring and reteaching. This help may be required or mandatory depending on the studentand#8217;s level of need. This is also a time when student clubs can meet to plan events and activities or when students in need of study or group collaboration time can work on academics. Additionally, we will offer SAT and college planning support during this time.
New staff members
There are several new staff members joining the Laker team this year. NTHS is pleased to welcome and introduce:

He will also work to improve communication with students and parents regarding graduation and college entrance requirements. He will be working to improve our counseling website and has already set up a Twitter account at https://twitter.com/NTHSCounseling.

Need for volunteers!
Parents and community members, we are in need of several volunteers to commit to helping run our athletic events for the 2012-2013 school year. We need volunteers to run the books and scoreboards for volleyball and basketball. We also need volunteers to run the clock and scoreboard for football as well as run the lines. We will give volunteers a VIP pass for entrance into all school events for the year. If you are interested in helping with this please contact Judi Dietz at firstname.lastname@example.org or call Joanna Mitchell for more information at 530-581-7005.
