TAHOE, Calif. – Kobe Robbins, a sixth-grade student from Mrs. Bendock’s classroom, won the North Tahoe school-level competition of the National Geographic Bee and a chance at a $25,000 college scholarship. Kobe competed against 12 other students through nine grueling rounds to earn the 2013 NTS Champ title. In the first round, four sixth graders: Thierry Thys, Kobe Robbins, Aidan Tippins and Aidan Smith, five seventh graders: Johanna Lemke, Dominic Hatch, Gio Sanchez, Josh Brown and Nicole Evans and four eighth graders: Nathan Lutz, Savannah McMorrow, Garrett Dixon and Tobin Johnson participated. After five rounds, the challenge had narrowed to three: Nathan Lutz, Josh Brown and Kobe Robbins. Brown and Robbins continued for another three rounds, until Robbins took the championship. Kobe will take a final written component this week to determine if he will get the chance to advance to the Washington, D.C. challenge on May 22-23, 2013.
