Northstar-at-Tahoe to host women’s sport camp

TRUCKEE and#8212; Lake Tahoeand#8217;s All-Women Sports Camp hosts world class professional women athletes and instructors at Northstar-At-Tahoe, bringing the sports of mountain biking, road cycling, triathlon and running together. Ladies will have the chance to experience more than two days of endurance clinics, group bike rides and group runs, June 2-5, 2011.

and#8220;Our camp will bring together a festival-like environment for competitive and recreational women of all levels in these four endurance disciplines. We have a dynamic roster of athletes and instructors that can cater to beginners and#8212; all the way to the experienced and advanced skilled women,and#8221; says Event Director Inger Norman of Norman Kinetics LLC.

Having worked in the sports/event marketing industry for more than 12 years, Inger specializes in womenand#8217;s experiential marketing and knows first hand the and#8220;all-womenand#8221; theme is no where near its tipping point.

and#8220;Women have a way of communicating in a compassionate manner, creating a non-intimidating environment. This camp is a perfect place for ladies to learn from the best in their sport or come out and try something new.and#8221;

Camp attendees will have the opportunity to ride and run with some of the strongest names in womenand#8217;s endurance sports, including mountain bike legend, Marla Streb, current XTERRA World Champion, Shonny Vanlandingham, Pro Triathlete/Movement Specialist, Jessi Stensland, three-time Olympian, Katerina Nash, former international and Team USA Professional Road Cyclist, Julie Young and U.S. Olympic Trials runner Gia Mandy. Informational clinics, such as and#8220;Fitness Off The Bikeand#8221; will be held by Pro Cycling Team HTC/High Roadand#8217;s fitness trainer, Darcy Norman, and and#8220;How to Stay Head Strongand#8221; by Top Gun, F18 fighter pilot/athletic adventurer Jeff Hancock.

Other clinics include Sports Nutrition, Rehab To Running, Recovery/Regeneration, Open Water Swim Technique, Proper Bike Fit, Bike Skills and Level 1/Level 11 Bike Maintenance.

and#8220;Iand#8217;ve had many women approach me and say, and#8216;I want to be part of the weekend, but thatand#8217;s quite an intimidating roster!and#8217; yet what they donand#8217;t realize is that every athlete, instructor and sponsor involved wants to see womenand#8217;s participation in these sports grow,and#8221; said Norman. Specialized Bikes is bringing out a fleet of road and mountain demo bikes for ladies to ride.

XTERRA Wetsuits is giving away more than $2,000 in wetsuits with an exclusive camp deal for those attending. Other camp exclusive deals and give aways include Oakley Women Eyewear, Camelbak hydration solutions, Luna Sport Gear and more.

Proceeds of Lake Tahoeand#8217;s All-Women Sport Camp will benefit Women For Women International, an organization committed to helping women survivors of war rebuilt their lives. and#8220;I found this to be a great match for our camp because this organization not only educates women on their rights, but teaches them a skill to make a living- giving back their confidence and independence. Thatand#8217;s something that mirrors what sports can be for a woman,and#8221; said Inger.

Lake Tahoeand#8217;s All-Women Sports Camp is an all-inclusive weekend for those coming from out of town. But Tahoe locals have a few choices in how much they can participate. Understanding local ladies have their own accommodations, or canand#8217;t possibly take a Friday off from work, the and#8220;Tahoe Localand#8217;s Packagesand#8221; can accommodate a few scenarios.
