Northstar to host golf tournament for Truckee skatepark fundraising effort
TAHOE/TRUCKEE, Calif. and#8212; The Northstar Golf Course will host a golf tournament on Sunday, June 24 at noon to benefit a fundraising effort to illuminate and expand the existing Truckee skatepark.
Last year, several Truckee skateboarders combined forces and approached the town of Truckee with their idea for an and#8220;expansionand#8221; to the existing park. The town was on board and agreed to match the amount the enthusiasts could raise. Since that meeting, these dedicated project members have succeeded in raising money through various efforts like monthly and#8220;Trivia Nightsand#8221; at Best Pies, holding raffles during Truckee Thursdays, and developing a nonprofit website that accepts donations at http://www.truckeeskatepark.com.
Chris Bartowski, founder of truckeeskatepark.com and member of the fundraising effort said, and#8220;The current park is awesome, but with the growing popularity of skateboarding, the current park is too small to house everybody. With the expansion, we could easily cater to a diverse selection of skill levels and age ranges.and#8221;
Local companies may select to be bronze, silver or gold sponsors, contributing anywhere from $150-500 to represent a golf hole. Sponsors are encouraged to design creative hole contests (i.e. dizzybat longdrive contest etc.). The cost is $55 in advance or $65 day-of for players to enter. Sign up in advance for both players and corporate sponsors at http://www.truckeeskatepark.com. The event will be a four-person, scramble format. Day-of sign ups must be done in cash only. Registration begins at 11 a.m.
The golf tournament is a way for local businesses and community members to show support for the Truckee skatepark. There will be plenty of prizes and hole contests. Contact Adele Attix at 530-562-8024 or email@example.com for more information.
