OLYMPIC VALLEY, Calif. and#8212; The Resort at Squaw Creek announced two-time Olympic medalist Shannon Bahrke, raised on Squaw Valley moguls, will join Santa and Mrs. Claus to launch the and#8220;Magical Memoriesand#8221; annual holiday celebration Friday, Nov. 26, 5-8 p.m. The Gingerbread Village Unveiling and Grand Tree Lighting Ceremony signal the official commencement of the holiday program that spans through Jan. 2.-

and#8220;This is a very special event for me because as a young girl, our family would always come to Squaw Creek to see all of the Gingerbread houses,and#8221; said Bahrke. and#8220;I always wanted to eat them all up!and#8221;

Bahrke won a silver medal in moguls at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympic Winter Games. In 2010, at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, she landed on the podium again, scoring a bronze medal and catapulting her name into the history books as one of the few U.S. skiers to medal in two Olympics.-

After winning her silver medal in Salt Lake City, Bahrke founded the aptly named Silver Bean Coffee Company. The company offers a variety of coffee blends, including and#8220;athlete blends,and#8221; which help U.S. Ski Team athletes by providing revenue to cover the costs associated with competing. For every bag of and#8220;athlete blendand#8221; coffee sold, $1 goes back to the athlete and also a charity they chose.

The Unveiling and Tree Lighting will feature local ice skaters, live music, carolers, Santa and Mrs. Claus and Santa’s merry elves, ice skating with Buddy Bear, complimentary hot chocolate and s’mores. Santa will arrive on a classic fire engine.

Major musical presentations are offered Dec. 11 and 12 with a holiday performance by the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus, Handel’s Messiah performed by TOCCATA in conjunction with the Truckee Tahoe Community Chorus Dec. 19.
