One day Teaser display at the Tahoe Maritime Museum
This summer there is no shortage of exhibits, interactive experience and hands-on activities for children at the Tahoe Maritime Museum on Lake Tahoeand#8217;s West Shore. and#8220;One of the most exciting and popular additions to the museum is the boat ride simulation designed by the Executive Director who holds a Ph.D. in evolutionary biology. With more than a decade of graphics and computer animation expertise, our director Bill Kraus has created an interactive experience that gives visitors and#8212; young and old alike and#8212; the opportunity to navigate through buoy fields and other boats from the second floor of the museum! Itand#8217;s fun, colorful and full of surprises,and#8221; said Nicole Cheslock, director of education and outreach. Check out whatand#8217;s happening at the museum.
TEASER: Friday, July 31, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Historical speedboat on display, one day only! Whatand#8217;s faster than a train, begins with a and#8220;Tand#8221; and calls Tahoe her permanent home? The answer is one of the newest additions to the Museumand#8217;s collection: Teaser. Teaser raced the 20th century limited train in a time trial from Albany to New York City in 1925 and#8211; and won. She is a sleek, classic beauty that will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, July 31. This is a great chance to see this amazing and historic vessel as well as check out the new exhibits at the museum.
MARINE SWAP: Sunday, Aug. 9, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Where can you find and#8212; or sell and#8212; your old boat and engine parts, maritime-themed home decor, boats and more? The museumand#8217;s annual Marine Swap, a unique forum for classic boating aficionados and todayand#8217;s avid boaters. Many deals and affordable items will be available, which takes place in the museumand#8217;s parking area and is free for the viewing public. Register for a space by Aug. 2 for a $10 discount. Spaces range from $40 to $100 and are available on a first come, first serve basis. All registration proceeds benefit the not-for-profit museum. THUNDERBIRD: Thursday, Aug. 13, 5 to 7 p.m. The Making of a Model. Earl Burton discusses the famous Thunderbird and the intricacies and challenges of
building the exquisite model on loan and currently displayed at the museum. Enjoy refreshments from 5 to 5:30 p.m. followed by the presentation and question period. No reservations required. $10 and 20 percent discount for museum members.
