Opinion: Brockway Campground advertisement presumptuous, misleading
The recent advertisement insert in the Jan. 7 North Lake Tahoe Bonanza and Jan. 8 Sierra Sun misleads the public by understating the issues below and quaintly suggests this is an eco-friendly, seasonal campground that offers a beautiful experience in a natural setting in North lake Tahoe.
Mountainside Partners (formerly East West Partners — developer for the also recently proposed 760-unit luxury home development as part of the Martis Valley West project) is out of the gate too soon with their advertisement stating “Planned Opening 2018” for the 550-unit Brockway Campground, which just happens to be adjacent to the 760-unit luxury development atop an unspoiled, undeveloped ridgeline.
The proposed campground has not been through detailed environmental review, but purports to be opening in 2018.
The two proposed developments individually and cumulatively, at the very least, will cause skyglow light pollution issues for the Tahoe Basin and Martis Valley as well as increased traffic and air quality issues that are proposed to be remedied by mitigation fees that do not address the actual issues, as well as the potential for scenic violation as both projects may be seen from the waters of Lake Tahoe with proposed removal of thousands of trees, and understates the disruption to wildlife.
