Opinion: Do not vote for Horan, Morris for IVGID Board

Phil Horan, currently an IVGID board member running for election, is a very popular and well-known community figure. But he wants to keep that popularity and doesn’t want to ruffle feathers.

He rubber stamps everything that IVGID management presents for approval, including increasing the district’s overall budget for salaries and benefits by 20% in the last 2 years. He does not want a vote by the property owners to fund any large new bond issues. He never opposes IVGID management.

Candidate Peter Morris would be another rubber stamp board member. Mr. Morris thinks our Recreation/Beach Fees are reasonable. That remark shows he is ignorant on how IVGID spends our money.

He does not acknowledge that IVGID did not reduce our rec fee even after several of our bonds were paid off. And even more telling is that Mr. Morris does not even pay the rec/beach fees. He ended up selling his home in a short sale, and is now a renter who does not pay the rec/beach fees.

Should we entrust oversight of IVGID’s finances to someone who appears to not have a vested financial interest in our community? In my view, when Mr. Morris attends public events and meetings, he shows no interest in learning from the public, only in “courting” IVGID GM Pinkerton.

A vote for Peter Morris is a vote for another rubber stamp board member who will spend our taxes with no concern for the taxpayer.
