Opinion: Hats off to Tahoe Forest CEO

Regarding Philip Fay’s Dec. 9 Letter to the Editor about costs of service at Reno Diagnostics vs. Tahoe Forest Hospital, there’s no question that certain services are less expensive at alternative resources.

However, most, if not all, of the alternatives operate on a daily schedule — i.e., 9 to 5 — and do not support those who can’t afford health care. Any public hospital has obligations to serve all, and there are costs involved to do that. Running the myriad of details for a complicated, integrated health system is not a job for the unqualified.

Our health system rating stands with top of all rural hospitals in the country … something I certainly am happy to know should I need emergency or convenient hospital attention.

This hospital has well over a 95 percent rating for infection free treatment — not something most hospitals in general achieve. Hats off to our CEO, who is making sure we stay there. He earns and deserves what he is paid.
