Opinion: Kudos to Granlibakken, Placer County

I’d like to offer my congratulations and gratitude to Placer County and the Board of Supervisors for participating in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Challenge— a program that promotes energy efficiency in public facilities.

Placer County recently conducted a comprehensive energy audit and a significant retrofit on the Granlibakken conference center in Tahoe City.

The audit recommended changing out old commercial kitchen appliances for new ones and installing modern heating and air conditioning control systems. As a result, the county is expecting a 43 percent reduction in energy use and savings of up to $44,000 each year.

The Better Buildings Challenge is aimed at doubling American energy productivity by 2030 while motivating corporate and public-sector leaders across the country to save energy.

It’s working in Placer County! This project saves money and energy and serves as a great example for the people of Placer County.

Executive Director, California State Association of Counties
