Opinion: Martis Valley West impact would be devastating
This letter is in response to Megan Humphrey’s Aug. 30 letter, “Martis Valley West the right project for Truckee-Tahoe.”
I am actually offended that an individual, living in Reno, thinks they have the inside information on what is best for the Truckee Tahoe area.
The Martis Valley West project may have a small portion that will encompass trails and small plots of protected open space. It hardly makes up for the projected 760 residential units, traffic, impact on schools, amenities and resources. Along with the potential for a 550-space campground. This a joke … right?
This is a Placer County project. So all revenue will go to Placer. Truckee/Nevada County will end up with the all the downsides this project will bring.
Many of us arriving in the area in the 1970s and 1980s have stayed and made this area our home. Working at our livelihood, as is raising children and caring about this magnificent area and community.
Sure, some development is inevitable, and the end result positive. Developing the Truckee-Tahoe area with the proposed Martis Valley West project is unnecessary and the end result will be devastating.
I encourage, all who care about our community, to attend the meeting on September 13th. Let our voices and concerns be heard.
